Halloween Party Trey Moody
Someone dressed up as me. I said, how clever to go as a mirror! While I said that, the person in costume as me voiced the very same words: how clever to go as a mirror. A friend walked by, asked me who I was supposed to be. Just myself, I and the person dressed as me said. My friend didn't know who to look at more earnestly and walked back toward the kitchen. I quickly drank half the glass of water in my hand. Splashed what was left on the person shadowing me, only to find my face suddenly wet. When my girlfriend arrived dressed as a cloud, she spoke wholly to the person who looked like me. Anything I tried to say, he echoed, neither of them paying me any attention. As I watched them leave, I saw myself living more naturally, somehow, without any kind of doubt. On the couch, two strangers were dressed as David Koresh and Dolly Parton. I sat between them. We didn't speak. They had an old horror film on. I ate another miniature candy bar while a black-and-white body was being ripped to shreds. A deep peace settled in. I felt like a frozen lake dusted with snow. It wasn't even winter.
