They Contemplate Puddles

After rain, it is not uncommon to come upon a knot of adolescents surrounding a puddle.
 
They do not preen. On the contrary, they circle the puddle and stare into the water, looking beyond the image of themselves. Glances are exchanged. Their eyes seem to indicate awe, respect. Something approaching fear.

Yet a quick glance over their shoulders reveals exactly what one might expect from the reflection: clouds and light, trees and light. The normal course of things.

Their eyes indicate otherwise. This is not a spectacle to be missed. The earth has grown a window to the sky.
