This was the most challenging writing contest I have ever judged. The talent pool was expansive, especially in how the authors defined a story. To me, stories are how we access the layers of being alive, and flash fiction is the sudden rush of blood to the head. I am dizzy and ecstatic. Thank you to all the submissions and of course the final selections for the experience of shock, delight and inspiration.

Fiction, and How to Wrestle a Girl: Stories. She was a finalist
for the PEN/Bingham Award for Debut Fiction, finalist for the NYPL Young
Lions Award, and a recipient of the PEN America Los Angeles Literary
Prize in Fiction.
