Dear Wigleaf,
I'm writing you from the exercise bike at my local gym, second floor, at the far end of the mezzanine draped with an American flag. On the bank of televisions in front of me, Fox News is reporting that President Trump will honor the victims of 9/11 from behind bullet-proof glass in a stiff white baseball cap. On another television Jeff Saturday is considering the legacy of quarterback Aaron Rodgers. On the television to the far left (really) Whoopi Goldberg is speaking intensely on an unknown subject, and the cuts to the audience show that she is appreciated, and admired. She then turns and speaks to our President, who stares straight ahead, eyes blackened by the shadow of the ballcap. Jeff Saturday pauses to listen, the muscles in his jaw tightly clenched. The chyron beneath him tells us that Michigan won a game last night because of an unknown clock. The commercial is for gold coins. The commercial is for copper-banded back support. The commercial is for a pillow that will allow you to sleep through anything and wake up vibrant and refreshed. But I know that no such pillow exists. It's a trick, aimed at those who only think they want to sleep, but instead stay up all night, waiting.
