Cloud Baby
Elena Zhang

Cloud Baby grew out of the ground one day. Right in the middle of the city. Cloud Baby kept growing and growing, unfurling like a rose. We all went outside to watch. Left our houses, offices, cars. We left our own babies. We loved Cloud Baby. We wanted to see how high Cloud Baby could go without crying. Every day, Cloud Baby looked a little different. That was the joy of it. We sang songs to Cloud Baby. We knit sweaters and chatted about Cloud Baby's progress over tea. Around us, the city slowly decayed. It was the best time of our lives. Everyone died. In the end, Cloud Baby was the truest thing we'd ever known.
