My Make-up Tips, 1986

You will need good light. Morning light is the best, but if it's rainy or overcast, grab the red flashlight under the kitchen sink.

Wipe the purple and black area under the eye and around the temple with a cotton ball dipped in Sea Breeze. Let dry. If there's moisture, the products won't stick.

Put Visine only in the red eye.

Apply a light coat of cornstarch over the bruise, but be cautious not to apply too much, as it may make your skin appear shiny.

Next, apply a coat of CoverGirl foundation with a Q-tip. Don't try to cover the bruise with one coat. It's a process.

Let dry completely.

Apply the foundation all over your face, under your jaw, and close to your neck.

Use Maybelline Undereye Cover Stick and gently dab the concealer on the bruise with a clean Q-tip until it is even with your skin tone.

Apply to the same area on the unbruised eye and temple to match.

Check progress under the light.

Press a cotton ball over the compact Revlon powder in oil-free beige. Shake off excess—smudge around the edges of the covered bruise to set the makeup. Do the same on the good eye.

With an eyeshadow brush, apply CoverGirl Country Woods shadow in Bone over both eyelids as a base. Use the same brush to apply Deep Brown to the bottom lids—apply a generous amount.

Apply a thick layer of black eyeliner pencil to the upper and lower lash lines. Put two coats of black mascara on eyelashes. It will look a little trashy, but that's okay.

Be careful with the blush. Brush downward, avoiding the covered area.

Apply Matt Brandywine lipstick to your upper and lower lip. It's a lot of color for daytime, but it draws attention away from your camouflaged eye.

If hair is parted on the wrong side, re-part it with a wet comb and let it hang over the bruised side.

Check make-up coverage in the sunlight or with a flashlight.

Remember to take all the necessary products with you, including Q-tips, cotton balls, and brushes, in case you need to reapply during your lunch break at the factory.

Remember to smile, always smile.

Final Tip: Complete this process before he wakes up and sees. Most of the time he will feel sad or sorry. But in case it reminds him of his reasons for hitting you, better to have it covered.
