Dear Wigleaf,
The washcloths my grandmother gave me are the same ones my grandfather used
in hospice.
Or, more aptly, the same ones the nurses used to bathe him.
I realized this, this morning.
His name is written on the tag—alongside his room
number—just in case, I assume, the nurses forgot who
he was or forgot where they were.
Is forgetting a symptom of grief or healing?
I am not writing this from the shower, by the way, although I've yet to get
dressed. I'm having trouble recognizing my hands as my own.
Sending love,
djh
