She remembered a story she once read about an African tribe where, as a punishment, everyone circled the culprit in the village square and told him every kind thing he had done since birth. So, when she found him all alone and avoiding her eyes, she started by reminding him of his other self and of that time when she had lied to him because she was ashamed and he, understanding, had told her she was lovely.
